Welcome to my learning portfolio! This learning portfolio is a requirement of the University Honors program at University of Cincinnati. So what is honors like at UC? Good question! The honors program is based on experiences not credits so each student that goes through honors will get a different experience out of the program. My name is Megan Dunlevy and I am a Biology (Biomedical Studies) major with a minor in medical sciences at the University of Cincinnati. I was born in Evanston, Illinois but grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio. Here at University of Cincinnati I am currently involved in Knit for the Needy, HealthCats and I am involved in undergraduate research. With tea in one hand my knitting needles in the other and sensible shoes on my feet I plan on attacking this thing called "college" and seeking my great perhaps. I played the Flute in high school both in marching band and in a more concert setting. I have a well used library card and an even more well used Netflix account. The road to seek my great perhaps will be long and winding but I as far as I am concerned it is a roller coaster that only goes up.
So my freshmen year is done so it is time to look to the future. I had a very successful freshmen year. I got involved in undergraduate research, I traveled abroad, I did three honors experiences in a semester, and I kept my grades up. Sophomore year should be more of a challenge with Organic Chemistry and French but I have spent the summer preparing for this.
So two years down and two to go! That fact only terrifies me slightly. This summer I am participating in SURF (Page coming soon to computers everywhere) so I am getting paid to continue doing the research I love this summer with people I love working with. I have another successful academic year keeping my grades up even with O Chem! I completed two honors experiences finishing my required 5 and I traveled abroad again. This year I sent an amazing week falling in love with Paris. This summer in between research I will be exploring more of Cincinnati and slowly but surely I plan to turn the city into my city.
Junior Year? Let's talk about that! And another year bites the dust. Just one more year to go. This year was a year to remember, as I took the MCAT in May and then had some big life decisions to make. For more information about how that went and what my future plans are check out my Year in Review for 2015-2016. This summer I went full time EIP (More info under the Pre-Health Internship page) and I am still spending some time in the lab mostly getting a manuscript ready for publication. Since last year my exploration of Cincinnati has gone well and I am slowly crossing things of my Cincy bucket list. I traveled abroad again this year. This year I went to Iceland, a destination that confused everyone. Iceland was unbelievable. The natural beauty of the county is stunning at every turn.
And with that I have done it. I am officially a gradate of the University of Cincinnati. My oh my has the time flown by. It seems like yesterday that I was heading off to my first class of undergrad ( 8am Chemistry lecture). Fast forward 4 years and I have moved to Atlanta to peruse a Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology at Emory University... not quite the path I thought I would be on when I stepped onto UC's campus 4 years ago. I had a complicated, tiresome, frustrating, awe-inducing, amazing and life-changing 4 hours at UC. I never would have thought that I would have ended up where I am but despite the convoluted path I took to get here I wouldn't change anything. The experiences, both negative and positive, I have had over the past four years has caused me to grow in leaps and bounds in ways I did not think were possible and I turned me into the person I am today.
